A chutney is a fresh or cooked relish from the cuisine of India that add flavour to the dish.

It includes such forms as tomato relish, a ground peanut garnish or a yogurt, cucumber and mint dip.

Main ingredients of basic chutney are :

Seasonings such as salt, spice, vegetables and fruits such as chillies, plumps, tomatoes, onion, garlic, fig, peanuts, ginger, dates, coriander etc.

Below are some examples of chutney :

Coconut chutney – This is made grounding coconut with urad dal and then adding spices like mustard, fenugreek and red chilli garnished with oil.

Pudina chutney (Mint chutney) – It is made by grounding pudina with different spices and garnishing it with mustard and oil.

Tomato chutney – It is made by grounding tomato with chilli powder, and adding spices such as fenugreek and ginger.

Tamarind chutney – It is made by grounding tamarind, ginger and chilli.

Mango Chutney – It is made by grounding raw mango and different spices.
